Multivariate statistical optimization of the ethanol fuel dehydration process using ionic liquids

In this work, the ethanol fuel dehydration process was optimized using Aspen Plus? simulator and a multivariate statistical technique based on desirability function. The suitability of ionic liquids 1-methylimidazolium chloride ([Mim][Cl]), 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ([Emim][Cl]), 1-butyl- -3-methylimidazolium ([Bmim][Cl]) 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium ([Hmim][Cl]), as extractive distillation entrainers, also evaluated compared to conventional solvents, ethylene glycol cyclohexane. Among solvents studied, [Mim][Cl] required lowest energy consumption, about 8% less use when glycol. techniques employed were effective in optimization processes consumption could be minimized while achieving purity agreement with current specifications well obtaining high solvent recovery. With approach it possible improve performance little or no modification existing processing plants.
